Makou is an electronic magazine founded by the artist, Dia Al-Azzawi in May 2020. Faced with the cancellation of exhibitions, also affecting the activity of artists from the Iraqi diaspora living in Europe, Al-Azzawi wanted to offer a space to maintain a link in the face of isolation and to document their production. Its purpose is also to encourage artists to question the meaning of artistic creation in these new circumstances.
The magazine is concerned with the history of Iraqi art, following its origins in the last century and the changes that took place in style and vision. Makou makes precious and rare archives available to a wide public, thereby contributing to building a virtual memory of modern Iraqi art.
