Mahbuba Maqsoodi

Mahbuba Maqsoodi (born 1957 in Herat) is a German-Afghan artist and writer. She was trained in Persian miniature painting in Herat in the early 1970s. From 1980, Maqsoodi studied at the Muchina Art Academy (Stieglitz Art Academy) in Leningrad (St Petersburg), where she received her doctorate. She has lived in Munich with her family since 1994. Maqsoodi works primarily in drawing and painting, and since the early 2000s has produced many architectural works in glass. The most famous are probably the 29 windows she designed for the Benedictine Abbey of St Mauritius Tholey. Maqsoodi has received numerous awards, including the Bavarian Order of Merit in 2022. Her book The Drop Nows Nothing of the Sea was published in German in 2017.
