Founded in 2021 in Tehran, Ghubar is a research group dedicated to Islamic art history and historiography. It provides a platform for Persian-speaking scholars to critically engage with Islamic art, bridging local and global perspectives while rethinking traditional approaches in Iran. Ghubar focuses on historiography, codicology, and museum studies, integrating contemporary methodologies and fostering collaboration between Iranian and international scholars. Through workshops, publications, and online courses, the team — comprising Niloufar Lari, Nastaran Nejati, Negar Shariatnia, Salimeh Hosseini, and Azadeh Latifkar — aims to address gaps in Islamic art studies and promote fresh, critical perspectives.
