The Academy of Fine Art was founded in the school year 1958/1959 under the hospice of the Ministry of Education. In 1967 the Academy became the status of a College (College of Fine Arts) and has since been associated with the University of Baghdad. The University of Baghdad belongs to the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research. The College of Fine Arts has seven departments: Calligraphy and Ornamentation, Film and Television, Musical Art, Design, Art Education, Performing Art, Visual Art. The highest degree at the College is the PhD (since 2012).
