Lida Abdul was born in Kabul, Afghanistan in 1973, and lived as a refugee in India and Germany before immigrating to the United States. She earned a BA in Political Science and Philosophy before completing an MFA at the University of California in 2000. Based on her refugee experience, Abdul considers herself a nomadic artist, and her films, videos, and installations are infused with themes of cultural identity, migration, and the processes of destruction and displacement that have marked Afghanistan’s recent history. Her work has been exhibited in museums around the world and has received numerous awards.
