Founded in 2010, Lawrie Shabibi opened its doors in early 2011, becoming a key player in the development of the contemporary art scene in the region. Initially focused on emerging contemporary artists from the Middle East and North Africa, the gallery has since expanded to include underrepresented artists from other regions and generations. A key focus is supporting diaspora artists who explore identity, memory, and socio-political issues. The gallery also organizes art historical exhibitions, integrating older and younger artists to add depth and context to its program.
