Dijla Art Gallery was established in Baghdad in 1997 by Zainab Mahdi with the aim of encouraging young, upcoming artists. Originally located in Mahdi’s British colonial-era home, the gallery became a significant venue in the city’s art scene, supporting contemporary Iraqi artists and exhibitions. However, due to instability and changes in the neighborhood, the gallery was eventually forced to close its public space and now operates by private appointment, selling works directly to collectors.
