Azar Pajuhandé

Germany, Berlin

Azar Pajuhandé was born in Tehran, Iran in 1982. She holds a BA in Industrial Design from the Art University of Tehran and an MA in Fine Arts from the Kunsthochschule Kassel. Based in Berlin, she creates multi-piece installations using materials such as photographs, drawings, ceramics, paper, and textiles. Employing visual techniques such as blow-up, zooming, and deformation, she questions the political, social, and sexual norms and constraints inherent in representation. Her most recent works on paper and canvas focus on the female body. Fear, loss of control, refusal, and exhilaration are expressed through her figures. She reflects on the representation of women in Orientalist art and popular media in relation to her self-identity as an artist. Her works have been exhibited in various galleries in Iran, Germany, Poland, the Netherlands and Switzerland.
