Founded in 1696, Akademie der Künste is one of the oldest cultural institutes in Europe. An international community of artists it has over 350 members in six sections (Visual Arts, Architecture, Music, Literature, Performing Arts, Film and Media Arts).
Its rich and diverse exhibition and event programs present contemporary artistic positions to the public and are dedicated to safeguarding cultural heritage.
Recent projects include The European Alliance of Academies conference: The Power of Art: Defending a transnational understanding of European culture, whose aim was to analyse the potential of artistic cooperation, the different approaches to cultural policy in Europe and their influence on cultural institutions and thus on the freedom of art.
